Microsoft-Yahoo, a Likely Team-up Against Google

I caught up with this news from one of my Twitter pals. I could have almost assumed this would happen after seeing seeing the Flash Animation Ad of Yahoo Messenger tying the knot with MSN Messenger.

After both being beaten by Google to acquire Double Click Inc. a month ago, Microsoft and Yahoo are in the courting stage again.

It actually sounds like old news however this time, as per Wall Street Journal, Microsoft has gone on the offensive and went on to put a roughly $50 billion price tag on Yahoo. The renewed talks are a sign of Google’s power, WSJ said, in hope to combine companies’ share of the search advertising market to 27 percent against Google’s 65 percent.

As I’m more interested on the reactions in the search marketing arena, I followed Search Engine Round Table’s post.

In Digital Point, discussions are “That’s good news… That’s another way to remove Google’s monopoly…”

In the meantime, folks at WebmasterWorld are still rooting for Google.

But as always, the biggest concern of any search engine marketer is, “What will happen to my rankings? If I rank good in one search engine, and poorly in the other?” Hmm… Rright, good point…

Let’s just wait for the next episode of the MSNHOO! saga, shall we. :D

    I think this is a bad idea for Microsoft because google is so good as a search engine from the point of view of users. This is reminiscent of Time-Warner buying AOL.
    One good effect though, this would help break up MS’s monopoly, which would help the every industry in the US. When’s the last time Microsoft software made you more productive?

    @Heather, to some degree I’m also beginning to realize that combining 2 weak players often do not result into the desired strengthened result.
